Dirty Tech Packs

First of all…

Let’s Define What a Tech Pack is.

Think of a tech pack as the BLUEPRINT your clothing manufacturer needs to develop your product idea into a tangible product.

Tech packs cover every single detail that relates to your product, from the fabric type to the stitch length. All specifications such as pocket size and placement are included in a tech pack.

A single tech pack can easily take 8 hours to complete, depending on garment complexity, the skill of the designer completing the tech pack, if the garment is a new development, etc. etc.

So now, we understand they’re pretty important and can be quite labor intensive.

We’re not going to get into every single component a tech pack needs, but this bad boy can easily be anywhere from 6-10 pages.

What goes into a Dirty Tech Pack?

All of the same details as a regular one, minus the fluff.

Dirty tech packs harness the power of photos for a lot of the heavy lifting. If your clothes are manufactured overseas, it’s likely there is a language barrier- photos leave much less room for misinterpretation.

Dirty tech packs are usually between 4-6 pages long and include:

★ Detailed technical flat sketches

★ Sewing and construction instructions

★ BOM (Bill of Materials)

★ Spec/ Measurement sheet (without grade rules)

★ All necessary graphic details, sizing, placements, etc.

Do Dirty Tech Packs Actually Work?

In short, yes, but with a caveat. The last thing we’re advocating is skipping important steps in the process- after all, you don’t want your samples to suck.

Dirty tech packs work best with already-established manufacturer relationships. This is because your brand is unique and it can take time for your manufacturer to understand your brand’s vibe.

However, fret not if this is a brand-new vendor relationship!

We will simply establish your branding in a separate digital PDF document ahead of time to give to your new vendor. It would include:

★ Packaging

★ Labels, hangtags, etc.

★ Logo

★ All “signature” core details that make your brand consistently unique
